House Cat Acrylic Portrait

 So I was given a new commission from a friend of mine to ask to paint his cat, so I used acrylic paints I still have needed to use before get a new set. So looking at the photo as the cure was mostly brown with stripes, I used mainly brown and had to get the pose right while having a blueish background, making sure the fire in different shades of brown blended together and did a tricky job for the detailed areas such as the ears and eyes. Previous mistakes of the body shapes so I painted over that part to make it into a shadow to improvise and like how it.

He was really pleased with how it turned out and worth the pay to know it was something he likes to hang up on display.

Portrait commissions

 Been awhile and got some new images I’ve been working in lately for awhile as I’ve been a little busy for course works and new ideas working on. So here are what I’ve been doing to show you all. Been taking commissions from a community and did some guinea pigs, chickens and a Shepard dog.

Heres what I’ve done for a commission Ive taken, it was a little slow with limited paint supplies but gotten much as I can get for this portrait for a bloke who wanted a painting of his dog so I thought o give it a go. At first at the Community farm I might have beeen rushing a little with the paint with limited time we had and get the image right by position while painting it, but luckily he gave me the picture of his dog to get the face do e. So i had to think of how to pull through and improvise, some hard time getting the shading right for the fur, but I think this looks really good and just some minor touches for some parts to complete it.

The farmer was very pleased with how it was made and shown it to others in the farm of my talent. I was happy of how it came about and be doing more work in the near future.

Weasel pen illustration

So had some drawings with one of my sketches and did a little improvement on the background for a certain weasel portrait using pens. One of the stuffed animals we used back in college and thought after going through my pages to use it. Making the background differently from the original photo to add some more natural features like a stones, a branch a rock with it crawling over it.

Sketch and artwork updates

been doing some paintings and sketches lately and working on more to catch up on my skills so they don't get rusty. I've managed to get around to finish up the crab with a sandy background and some rocks but getting there, will need some white since I ran out so I had to improvise. still working on it and will let it dry first before get some paints needed to add a bit of layering. And will work on the top as some works and bit of shading later.

The latest one is a sketch of a creature I'm working on as a fire-based character from one of my childhood drawings as a kid and decided to go through my old sketches and remake them after all these years, making this character more agile, flexible with his extended tendrils in place of fires and have the body made up of armor and stone-like skin with the fire coming out of the gaps including the head. Was inspired by the balrog when I first saw it years ago when it first came out and made this. 

This one I did recently based on a watercolored portrait from my sketchbook when I was in college and make a new one on a canvas art using acrylic paint. Made certain to use a photo to help know the color and shading to get the texture right for the feathers and trees. Wanting to take more time drawing and painting while job hunting to be a good artist as I can be to get these noticed, so doing more as I can with more sketches for ideas for future projects.

Peacock portrait

Did some watercolour using photos I’ve taken from a trip awhile ago and used them together to make a group portrait of peacocks, first time doing one with feathers but like how they look so far. 

The grass I thought to use my brush to make soft texture, same for the rough feathers for the smaller birds and leave some white areas where they have lighter colours

Updats: Water colour portraits.

Been doing some painting over the summer and uploading some now here to show what I've been doing. So apologies for the delay and here's what I've been done.

Basically taken some snapshots of animals like the peacocks and thought to make a flock together using photos of some I've taken. Wanting to get the grass look right and tapped it to make patterns and different shades of green. Working on the feathers and will update the finished version of the portrait.

  

The next one I thought to make a wolf and originally inspired by House Start's emblem using colours and make the fur and background a winter theme. Worked on the shading and go a small frame for it to show how it looks after printing a copy for display.

Grey Wolf

Been ages since I've uploaded my blog considering that I've been busy job hunting, and decide to make up the lost cause by getting my art business grow in the meantime.

This is what I did today of making animal portraits and decided to make a wolf first as they are one of my favourite animals. Inspired by the Game of Thrones emblem and thought this could do well as a banner for House Stark. Used greyish watercolours to make the fur and the background, maybe do some more work on the background for the shading or another layer.

Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs & Prehistoric Life

This is one of the best source of information that explains a lot about extinct prehistoric creatures from millions of years of history; large Dinosaurs, prehistoric animals, plants and what the Earth was like in different like how the continents were millions of years ago, how they were once merged into one single super continent more than once.

I really loved collecting books about prehistoric life, been interested about what these animals were like when they were alive. They explain about the possible theories about their diet, the size and weight they had, how they moved and their behaviour back then after a few studies with their fossilized remains.

Planet Earth

The book of the documentary series by David Attenborough is one of the great things to know about the planet we live on and the natural wildlife all over the world in every country that exist. In the photo and footage of the book and TV, there are stunning images of animals of their unique features, stop motions like a bird's wing flap, bees flying and a shark leaping out of the water when catching it's prey.

It reveals information about birds, mammals, reptiles, insects and fish of every known species with David Attenborough as the host of the series to talk about the animals all over the Earth and the importance of their existence.

Each photo shows a stunning view of the world by satellite cameras for the series, including details of the landscapes. There were incredible details and sceneries people could hardly imagine. I find the photos stunning and incredible, showing the landscapes like the tropical forests, oceans, mountains and even deserts for examples. The producers of the series made excellant work to take shots of the landscapes and natural environments for the viewers and readers to see more of our home planet to appreciate nature more.

The Future is Wild book version

The book of the documentary series by Nigel Dixon about what life would look like from 5 million to 200 million years in the future. Gives a more detail information from the series and how animals have evolved in the future time periods.

The first part takes place in the next Ice Age where some animals are still familiar from their ancestors, the Amazon Rainforest turns into a grassland and the mediterranean sea turns into a salty desert.

In 100 million year, the planet becomes warm when the amphibious squids start taking the land and the biggest land animals ever to walk the earth as giant tortoises bigger than the dinosaurs, Antarctica now a tropical forest. And also at the time of the very last mammal species on Earth continue surviving until the next mass extinction.

In the final part of the series in 200 millions from now, a giant landmass; a new Pangea with more stranger, alien-looking creatures dominating the planet. Like fish taking flight, large insects, giant squid now able to walk on land and the smaller ones swing on trees and possibly become the next sentient creatures like us humans.

Liking both the book and TV documentary but the book gives more detail information to help more on the species. For the TV series it shows how the creatures move, behave and interact with each other, during the scientists' talk about them, they reveal how their biology works like how a spitfire bird shoots out chemicals, insects work together to catch their prey and the continents drift and change over time.

There was also an animated series of this for kids to enjoy. But I had hope to see more of the series as they've only showed a little of each area in a different time period, know more of what other animals might evolve into

Man After Man: Anthropology of the Future

One of the books of  Dougal Dixon who imagines what life on Earth would be like in the distant future. This illustrator book tells how humanity might evolve from a few centuries to millions of years through genetic engineering. Taking forms of cyborgs, genetically engineered human-animal hybrids to adapt to certain environments until their descendants would eventually evolve less human then their ancestors. Split into numerous human-based species since they can no longer be created from labs after the remaining humans have left earth, evolved into even more stranger looking creatures then their ancestors of new humans and insight of how they behave, adapt and survive; human parasites, sloth men, swimmers . The distant human descendants would eventually look more alien than us.

I found the book interesting of how humans might evolve into which is one of my main interest, how our descendants would look in the future either by genetic engineering or split from the mainstream when living on different planets. But what I found less liking about the book is how almost all the future human species share similar faces from their ancestors, I highly doubt if we become a new species we wouldn't have the same flat faces that I find odd and annoying how they look similar to each other

Artist Research: Terryl Whitlatch

Terry Whitlatch is an illustrator that creates many animals with skills and talent that are known for such

works, such as the art books, strange creatures in many films like Star Wars, Brother Bear, Jumanji and Men in Black. Celebrated as one of the top creature designers in the art world. She had also drawn many illustrations in the Katarran Odyssey book. Studied and researched in anotomy of animals and also include extinct species such as the dinosaurs; bones, muscles and organs for research of how these parts function.

Creating new and strange looking creatures would require sourceful materials of the existing animals, working on certain things they need such as how they behave, eat, adapt to such environments.
