Ford car portrait

A car show be coming up with one in Croft Supercar show this year, the JCP Community farm asked me to paint a portrait of a car, it was actually the first time I painted one so gave it a shot. Had a look at the photo and figured how it should look snd get the position right, taken snapshots to show the progress from each step of how I did it.
source: https://www.jpcspecialistmotorsports.com

So to start out I used the photo they picked for me to do, took a thought of how it would fit on the canvas, Drew out the shapes and where to paint as the lines would be painted over.

Then used yellow and would do more than one layer over the texture of the canvas, started s9me with black before adding the grey highlights.

With the windows and more parts of the car coated with more layers, once ready would add other colours to the portrait.

For the final touches were the number 64 and the wheels, had to do circles to be sure they were right but found it a little tricky for making the number in a awkward position but was close enough and so far liked how it the portrait turned out in the end.

Didnt want it to have a blank background so gave a greyish theme and used masking tape sround the corners to give it a white border look for the auction.

House Cat Acrylic Portrait

So I was given a new commission from a friend of mine to ask to paint his cat, so I used acrylic paints I still have needed to use before get a new set. So looking at the photo as the cure was mostly brown with stripes, I used mainly brown and had to get the pose right while having a blueish background, making sure the fire in different shades of brown blended together and did a tricky job for the detailed areas such as the ears and eyes. Previous mistakes of the body shapes so I painted over that part to make it into a shadow to improvise and like how it.

He was really pleased with how it turned out and worth the pay to know it was something he likes to hang up on display.

Portrait commissions

Been awhile and got some new images I’ve been working in lately for awhile as I’ve been a little busy for course works and new ideas working on. So here are what I’ve been doing to show you all. Been taking commissions from a community and did some guinea pigs, chickens and a Shepard dog.

Heres what I’ve done for a commission Ive taken, it was a little slow with limited paint supplies but gotten much as I can get for this portrait for a bloke who wanted a painting of his dog so I thought o give it a go. At first at the Community farm I might have beeen rushing a little with the paint with limited time we had and get the image right by position while painting it, but luckily he gave me the picture of his dog to get the face do e. So i had to think of how to pull through and improvise, some hard time getting the shading right for the fur, but I think this looks really good and just some minor touches for some parts to complete it.

The farmer was very pleased with how it was made and shown it to others in the farm of my talent. I was happy of how it came about and be doing more work in the near future.

Weasel pen illustration

So had some drawings with one of my sketches and did a little improvement on the background for a certain weasel portrait using pens. One of the stuffed animals we used back in college and thought after going through my pages to use it. Making the background differently from the original photo to add some more natural features like a stones, a branch a rock with it crawling over it.
This be the original photo I took when during the day I did some illustrations of animals in college.

Early sketch of the weasel using brown pencil for experimentation and later on used pen for a different pose to try out ideas.

The Fall of DA

Well, its official, Deviantart, once a great art network community after nearly 2 decades has become a shadow of its former self. All thanks to the people in charge to decide using Eclipse thinking the new format will make it.... better, which made it look terrible, its hard to navigate, unable to sort out where the journals are and not even given bothered ot maybe change the color or choices if they wanted to make it better for a new look. but instead has made it clunky and too flashy. There have been a lot of members talk about leaving and move to other places like Artstation for serious artists, I'm only keeping my account on cause of all the art I favourited over the years and want to look at for inspiration. After being a member of the DA for 13 years, they let fellow artists down and made it worse. So I wont be uploading my work on it anymore and only favouriting artworks that I like or get ideas to inspire.

check it out if you not seen what Eclipse looks like https://www.deviantart.com/

Sketch and artwork updates

been doing some paintings and sketches lately and working on more to catch up on my skills so they don't get rusty. I've managed to get around to finish up the crab with a sandy background and some rocks but getting there, will need some white since I ran out so I had to improvise. still working on it and will let it dry first before get some paints needed to add a bit of layering. And will work on the top as some works and bit of shading later.

The latest one is a sketch of a creature I'm working on as a fire-based character from one of my childhood drawings as a kid and decided to go through my old sketches and remake them after all these years, making this character more agile, flexible with his extended tendrils in place of fires and have the body made up of armor and stone-like skin with the fire coming out of the gaps including the head. Was inspired by the balrog when I first saw it years ago when it first came out and made this.

This one I did recently based on a watercolored portrait from my sketchbook when I was in college and make a new one on a canvas art using acrylic paint. Made certain to use a photo to help know the color and shading to get the texture right for the feathers and trees. Wanting to take more time drawing and painting while job hunting to be a good artist as I can be to get these noticed, so doing more as I can with more sketches for ideas for future projects.

Winter wonderland

So this might have been later but here was a portrait in blue water colour theme for a snowy winter as a Christmas gift for my grandmother’s friend, she asked me to make something of a landscape for her. Took a thought of what to make but since I thought Christmas was coming up, I thought why not make a winter wonderland theme but use blue water colour paints as a try out. Did a few that didn’t work so decided to do one in the day with faint blueish sky and snow, darker blue for the distance and trees. I shown it to my grandmother and she really liked it, even her friend thought it was really good so that was worth a Christmas present.

Peacock portrait

Did some watercolour using photos I’ve taken from a trip awhile ago and used them together to make a group portrait of peacocks, first time doing one with feathers but like how they look so far.

The grass I thought to use my brush to make soft texture, same for the rough feathers for the smaller birds and leave some white areas where they have lighter colours

New comic

Been working on a comic for awhile and planned out ideas for characters and story arcs, thought to start out for a pilot issue and see what others would think of it. It is the reboot version of the New Genesis idea but decided to go for an open world setting but a similar story and races, earth will be mentioned as a group of humans or a possible new race evolved after long periods of time away from earth, some would consider it a myth or unable to find their ancestral home world like the other three races brought to the alien planet they inhabit. I will inform you all following my blog when the first issue is up. So in the meantime here are the sneak peaks of pages and a cover I’m working on.

Updats: Water colour portraits.

Been doing some painting over the summer and uploading some now here to show what I've been doing. So apologies for the delay and here's what I've been done.

Basically taken some snapshots of animals like the peacocks and thought to make a flock together using photos of some I've taken. Wanting to get the grass look right and tapped it to make patterns and different shades of green. Working on the feathers and will update the finished version of the portrait.

The next one I thought to make a wolf and originally inspired by House Start's emblem using colours and make the fur and background a winter theme. Worked on the shading and go a small frame for it to show how it looks after printing a copy for display.

Demon swordsman and Tank mech (working progress)

so been doing some sketches for certain characters and maybe some advice or help be nice while working on them. based on the original sketches I did as a kid and wanting to redesign them.

One of the characters I drew was inspired by General Grievous from the original clone wars animated movie, and wanting it to look somewhat like a demonic swordsman with multi arms. So for the idea for him be to change the swords or redesign them as some sort of trophies he claimed from previous battles he won and drew some sort of tank mech and gave it a tail (not sure why lol) but for the new version will look better without it. So will work on them more like the others I will upload shortly.

Recent Updates

So I hope everyone enjoyed the summer as the weather as the nice sunny weather is over, been preparing for my first solo exhibition in a shop that's offered to set them up for me, so thought it be a big step to show my work to folks in town. Been taking evening classes at an art museum MIMA and enjoyed it to keep my skills up to date and meet other artists and other groups.

Did a glassing on a jar and wanting to do a wolf head, wanting to do something easier and simple for me since its been awhile that I did glassing. So far not so bad wand made the 'fur' texture since it was there was not much time to get it completely white.

From MIMA this was one of the life drawings I did from a model we did for working on ideas and techniques, so I used chalk and white coloured pencils with the brown paper to mix together, had plenty of time to get the body right and make some shading in most places.

Working on limited additions to the Shadow Wolf and decided to rename portrait and bought two frames for these after printing them for the exhibition and liked how they turned out in good quality.

Grey Wolf

Been ages since I've uploaded my blog considering that I've been busy job hunting, and decide to make up the lost cause by getting my art business grow in the meantime.

This is what I did today of making animal portraits and decided to make a wolf first as they are one of my favourite animals. Inspired by the Game of Thrones emblem and thought this could do well as a banner for House Stark. Used greyish watercolours to make the fur and the background, maybe do some more work on the background for the shading or another layer.

what do you think should I use this for my future project of making GOT emblem portraits?

Mountain Dragon

So been working on my new portrait for an art competition I heard about from my nana and thought I give it a shot. Decided to work on this as a fantasy theme illustration with a dragon standing on a mountain or something. First part I show was the sky and wanted it to have the texture of the sky and some light and dark cloud background. Watch some video tutorials for some ideas and will get this done hopefully and turn out well when I finish it. It's been awhile since I did acrylic paint but shouldn't be difficult form years of using a brush.

I managed to do the rest of the sky with lighter blue and fade into the horizon while the rest in the bottom corner could have some mountains and a forest. Been working on the mountain using different shades of brown, mostly something called burnt umber and black to mix with it for another coat with a bit of white for the lighter effects. The darker areas I needed for the shading so they don't look flat and have some depth between the dragon and the mountain cliff.

Finally completed it, took awhile as I had other things that kept me busy lol. Been having some thoughts of what to add for the final touch either a forest, more clouds or mountains. So I chose the latter as I thought a mountain dragon would fit well in the scenery and heed much of the brown I had to for the texture. Changed the outer wings for a different colour but left some hint of orange so it had some highlights through and tried to add some more light for the head and other areas of the body. Hope you like it and let me know what you think of it or anything that might or could've worked or not.

Update

I apologies for no update on my blog for all you viewers as I have been busy with work, family stuff and job hunting that has been keeping me away from drawing much. But took some time for a few quick sketches, what I can tell you is so far I have been working on some sketches for the illustrated stories of New Genesis which the first one shouldn't be too long as I will give you the sneak peak of the first one soon.

New Genesis Earth 2015 A.D.

So here is the map I made to show what the Earth in New Genesis looks like in an alternate universe, I was thinking wether or not I would make one but, readers and would-be fans are gonna ask what they look like and how much is different compared to ours. So I had to look for a map with blank and borderlines, it took longer then I thought to get the details right and thought which countries would likely be different.

The rest would remain the same so I just focus on some for the time being. May contain some spoilers but just a working concept for the fictional universe to give you the idea so far.

After the New Genesis event occurred in 1962, the four races across the world cease warfare and settled on the new changes that have happened to their world, the majority of the governments ultimately voted for a peaceful negotiation to hopefully build a peaceful coexistence with them. But it did not stop there as many things have changed over the decades.

In the early 1980s, the United States of America and the Soviet Union ultimately collapsed through civil unrest, politic conflicts and riots since the discovery of using the alien artefacts commonly referred in the 21st century as “Gen Artefact”. Many voiced their own concerns against the actions since the assassination of the Lemurian ambassador Natheah, which lead to the disastrous moment that would forever change the fate of humanity. The effects from the alien relics had spread almost across the globe on certain individuals. The four races and many factions are slowly adjusting to their new world and expanding outwards throughout system in the early 21st century,

since the event, a peacekeeping Order known as the Society once a secret society from human civilizations for untold centuries became known to preserve the peace between the four races, find and secure the Gen Artefacts from the wrong hangs to ensure another New Genesis never happens.

1. The Wildlands:

Territories once part of the United States now inhabited by those forced to survive on their own after the US dissolved. The most notable inhabitants of the Wildlands are the Endre, a name giving to those who have been exposed by the Gen Artefacts and forced to survive in the former US states that were quarantined after the New Genesis Event and now live as hermits and remain isolated from the world for some reason other then their mutations and mixed rumours.

There are still some human communities that either stayed willing or had been left behind by their governments.

Most of it has now been in a state of stife by warlords and former US loyalists seeking to claim much of the Wildlands as they can for obvious reasons: revenge, create a new order, or to seek power. However, the other reason for being called the Wildlands is due to mutations from the alien relics have altert some of the wildlife and still wonder the territories.

Most of Russia has also been quarantined and given the similar name but the current status of that area is so far unknown but very likely have similar type of creatures inhabiting the area.

Mexico is planning on to reclaim some of the non-controlled southern territories they can for the hope of a new nation of Aztlán, even if they are prepared for conflict against any warring factions.

2. Cascadian Alliance:
(more to come)

3. Texan Federation:
Since after the War of Ignorance ended, Texas was one of the first to succeed from the United States after the humiliation the nation received of the First Contact incident and the inhumane experiments the public was outraged and suffered enough and seeing the corruption within the government. They were the first to succeed to become a sovereign nation and mostly allied with the New Republic of America as most of the current generation wishes to rekindle the bond with the rest of the continent. The Texan Federation, or mostly referred to as the "T-Feds" seeks to maintain a strong military power to protect their country and survive against any challenges thrown at them in the new era.

4. Lakotah Republic:
A tribal nation formed by the Native Americans  who wished to earn a sovereignty of their people in the North American Borders since the collapse of the USA, being the smallest and youngest nation in the former US territories the republic is more on friendly relations with the Kronan Ree Tribes , the Society and some factions in the northern Wildlands. Creating a confederation of races and cultures to form a peaceful community and has some form of military to defend themselves while close the Wildlands. The government is run by a group of 'Elders' who are valued for their experiences rather then social status.
5. Kronan Ree Tribes:
The Kronan Ree Tribes agreed but kept the territories they annexed from the US, Africa, most of Brazil rainforest and Oceania and treated humans fairly over the years. The Kronan Ree are a race very much similar to humans, but can change their forms from human to that of a beastfolk-like creature and are a genetically diverse species that are divided into tribes led by the continents they hail from: Nor Amor (North America), Sou Amor (South America), O'Shahn (Oceania), Afo'kan (Africa), Norasia (Aisa), Auroben (Europe).

During the war they took the opportunity to reclaim some of their ancestral lands after long histories of conflicts between Kronan Ree and human,  forming an alliance with the Lemurians for common grounds of survival by starting riots and political paranoia from within. One of the biggest advantages they succeeded was the Afo'kan Tribe brought most of the African states into an alliance, founding the Greater African Commonwealth in hopes of restoring the homeland

to it's former glory.

The Sou Amor Tribe have been in a long feud with Brazil over deforestation to the Amzon Rainforest and claim much of it as their territory until a union was declared between both species to save the Amazon in 2001.

The O'Shahn Tribe declared some of the ocean their territory using old warships they scavenged from the wars and ancient technology to defend the colonies, including islands as well.

North Eastern Europe claimed by the Auroben Tribe who wish to restore some the ancient cultures of their Nordic ancestors, Christianity is openly accepted but anything such as Nazism or anything of racial ideology is strictly forbidden. They are mostly tolerant to humans who still live in the Kronan Ree territories and those liberated from the Soviets.
6. Protectorate States of America:
The states that stayed loyal became the Protectorate States of America, a successor of the United States after the collapse. Despite the results they're still one of the strongest states over military, economic and trade influence. Mostly rivals to the

7. Lemurian Empire:
A civilization of greenish blue skin humanoids with the given appearance of elves in western mythology, the Lemurians have long lived beneath the oceans in vast artificial colonies built by their ancestors thousands of years ago to sustain the remnants of their race to survive. By preventing problems like
corruption, population growth, and most of all to avoid being discovered by humans at the time between the 18th and 19th centuries, they discovered an ancient gate technology that only linked to Mars to set up a new colony for their people. They not only relied technology to advance their civilization, but spirituality and balance between them and all of the Earth’s since the majority of Lemurians have developed the ability that surpasses humans and Kronan Ree.

After the war, they annexed India and some of the southern Asian countries under their protection in mutual understanding to remain neutral avoid war and offer to make them into protectorate states of the Lemurian Empire for the time being, although they made laws to prevent poaching on animals they consider sacred especially the tigers from their barbaric practice in greed and superstitions in medicine.

8. European Federation:
(more to come)

9. South African Union:
(more to come)

10. Union of Brazil:
(more to come)

11. Djinn Regime:
The Djinn are subterranean and have a colony on another planet in the solar system, so they won't appear on the physical map.
